Website Manager #
Horsham U3A is a not-for-profit charity committed to enriching the lives of our members through a variety of engaging workshops and classes. Our offerings include arts and crafts, languages, and local history, providing opportunities for lifelong learning and social connections within the community.
Key Responsibilities #
- Regularly check the website for errors and ensure optimal functionality.
- Create and update content to reflect current workshops and classes.
- Collaborate with instructors to feature their programs effectively on the site.
- Analyse website traffic and user engagement to enhance user experience.
- Maintain the website’s design and structure to align with branding and accessibility standards
Required Skills #
- Excellent written communication skills
- Computer skills to be able to complete forms, download files
- Knowledge of WordPress & SEO is an advantage
- Knowledge of use of Canva
Website Responsibilities #
You will need to create new content for the website on a weekly basis. This includes
- weekly activities
- events
- promotion of individual classes
This may require you to create new images for the posts (articles). Canva is the preferred tool for creating thee images currently.
Other responsibilities will be the weekly maintenance.
Once a week, you should check that the wordpress system is up to date, including core files, plugins, and themes.
Once a month, you will also be required to back up the database using the Updraft Plus plugin that is installed on the website.
The Committee will also require you to produce a report for the monthly meetings.

Social Media Pages #
Our accounts on Facebook and Instagram are currently linked to the website using the Jetpack plugin.
Once a new post is published on the Website, it should automatically post to our social media pages.
We also have a YouTube channel that is used to store our videos, and playlists have been set up on this for events and other functions..
You will also be responsible for monitoring any comments, questions and other feedback received either on our social media channels or on the website.
Events Manager #
The Events Manager is a separate plugin on the Website. This is used to advertise events, classes and workshops that are coming up.
You will need to make sure every week that this is up to date and include any upcoming events for the next month.
Primary importance is on any fundraising or community events such as the Sausage Sizzles, Carpark Sales or Tech Cafe.

Boosting items on Social Media #
You may need to boost posts on social media, please check with the Treasurer as this has not been set up with the U3A credit card and charges will be made to the card linked to your personal profile.
Content Creation #
It is up to you to decide on what type of content should be created for the website and social media pages. It may be useful to review any brand guidelines.
Canva has been used effectively to create featured images, reels and short videos.
Check with tutors as to what content they would like to advertise their classes, such as the paintings, writing for fun, local history & gardening. They may even have photos to share.
We also have a webcam available to stream or record classes and workshops.
Reports for the Committee #
Once a month, you will need to present a written report to the committee about the website and our social media pages. Include what updates you have made, any issues, and a brief overview of our visitors.
