Local History: 1946 Decentralisation with June Liddy
Our next Horsham U3A Local History Group gathering will take a closer look at one of the most important turning points in our town’s story – the 1946 decentralisation of Horsham. On Monday 25th May at 10.00 am, guest speaker June Liddy will share how post‑war planning, new industries and population growth reshaped Horsham in the mid‑1940s. June will draw on newspaper articles, photographs and personal memories to show how decentralisation changed everyday life in the Wimmera – from jobs and housing through to shopping, schooling and community services. This session is a great opportunity for anyone interested in local or family history to revisit a period of rapid change, add their own recollections and help build our shared picture of Horsham in 1946. Everyone is welcome to come along, enjoy a relaxed morning of stories, discussion and cuppas, and perhaps recognise a few familiar faces in the images on screen.
