“The Fabulous Dorseys” is a 1947 musical biopic about the big‑band brothers Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey. Basic details Title: The Fabulous Dorseys Year: 1947 Type: Musical biographical film Director: Alfred E. Green Stars: Tommy Dorsey, Jimmy Dorsey, Janet Blair, Paul Whiteman and others. Story in plain language The film follows Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey from their childhood in a Pennsylvania coal‑mining town through their rise as famous bandleaders. Their father insists they learn instruments, they form early bands, achieve radio and touring success, then fall out and go their separate ways before finally reconciling. Music and feel It is packed with big‑band swing and jazz numbers, including some of the Dorsey hits such as “I’m Getting Sentimental Over You,” “Tangerine” and “I’ll Never Smile Again.” Cameos from bandleader Paul Whiteman and pianist Art Tatum give it extra appeal for music lovers, and there is a famous jam‑session sequence showcasing their playing.
