Writing for Fun: Challenge!

This week our Writing for Fun group were presented with a challenge. To write a 100 word story devoid of a duplicate word.

The following is an example from Kay Armstrong’s book that was used for reference by the class.

And Then The Rains Came

Quite furtively, with almost an air of adventure, river waters rose,
spilling out across low lying agricultural land. Torrential Spring
rains had recently doused drought stricken paddocks turning
followed fields into sodden mires.

Runnels, wending their way towards the creek, saturated holes and
burrows en route. Small creatures, homeless, fled before rising
flood levels. Other marooned stock were moved onto higher
ground. Farmers kept constant vigil over grain crops.

Police monitored roads, keeping bridges under surveillance. Safety
became number one priority. Neighbours toiled tirelessly filling
sandbags to isolate houses or reinforce levees. Only when nature’s
calamity waned, did they relax.
