What’s On This Week at Horsham U3A: 20–24 July

Winter might have Horsham wrapped in a chilly morning fog, but there’s nothing cool about the energy inside the Old Railway Station this week! From gentle stretches to cut-throat card games, armchair adventures to artistic afternoons, our members are proving that learning (and laughing) never gets old. Whether you’re a long-time regular or thinking about dropping in for the very first time, there’s a seat with your name on it. Here’s everything happening this week.

Monday

The week kicks off in style with Table Tennis bright and early at 9.00am at the Table Tennis Association — a social hit-and-giggle for just $3 a session. Prefer to ease into the day? Join Seated Gentle Exercises at 9.15am at Hamilton Lamb Hall for some low-impact movement that’s kind on the joints and great for the mood.

Over in the Studio, our China Painting group meets from 10am, turning blank china into keepsakes with a little kiln magic — new members always welcome with plenty of guidance on hand. At the same time in the Main Room, buckle up for a very special Armchair Travel session with Mike and Rhonda Coffey, jetting off (without leaving your chair) to the wild beauty of Alaska, the thundering power of Niagara Falls, and the landmarks of Washington DC. Grab a cuppa and get ready to daydream.

Around midday, the monthly Luncheon Group gathers for lunch and a good chat — the perfect excuse to catch up with old friends or make new ones. And the day wraps up with two firm favourites in the afternoon: Contract Bridge at 1.30pm in the Main Room, and Cryptic Crosswords (2nd and 4th Mondays) at 1.30pm in the Small Class room, where Heather Crosthwaite helps decode the trickiest clues in town.

Tuesday

Creativity takes centre stage on Tuesday. From 10am, our Art: Pastels & Watercolours group in the Studio gets busy with brushes, pencils and a splash of colour, while next door in the Main Room, the Singing for Fun crew warms up their vocal cords for a joyful sing-along — no auditions required, just enthusiasm!

After lunch, card sharps can settle in for Solo at 1pm in the Waiting Room, and book lovers won’t want to miss Reading for Pleasure at 1.30pm at the Wimmera Library, where great reads and good conversation go hand in hand.

Wednesday

Midweek means movement and mischief. Another round of Table Tennis serves up the fun from 9am, and Tai Chi flows gently into the day at 9.15am at Hamilton Lamb Hall — perfect for balance, breathing and a calm start.

The afternoon is pure card-game heaven in the Main Room, with Canasta, 500 and Mah Jong all running from 1.30pm (Mah Jong is in the Waiting Room) — beginners are always welcome to learn the ropes. If cards aren’t your thing, head to the West Wing for the Grumpy Wrinklies, our much-loved monthly forum for a robust (and often hilarious) chat about current affairs.

Thursday

Thursday brings a gentler rhythm with Gentle Seated Exercises at 9.15am at Hamilton Lamb Hall, followed by Sounds of Music at 10am in the Main Room for anyone who loves losing themselves in a great tune. Crafty members can get stitching at Patchwork & Stitch from 10.30am in the Waiting Room, and wordsmiths can flex their vocabulary at Scrabble from 1.30pm in the Main Room — friendly competition guaranteed.

Friday

We finish the week on a high note. Table Tennis returns at 9am, and Tai Chi at 9.15am keeps everyone limber for the weekend ahead. Budding artists can pick up their brushes for Oil Painting from 9.30am in the Studio (bring your own materials), while in the afternoon, the Knitting & Crochet group meets at 1.30pm in the Waiting Room to swap patterns and progress on projects.

There will be no Technology Group this week as Trish will be away.
