July is here, we have made it half way through the year! So what’s on for this month at Horsham U3A?
What's ahead for july
- Issue 4 of the newsletter comes out at the end of this month. If you have an item to share, please drop it into the office by next Friday, 10th July, at 4pm.
- Rhonda is busy preparing new timetables for all of our classes and workshops that will be held over August & September. Copies of these will be added to the Newsletter, published on our website, and will also be available as a download.
Colour of the month
If you haven’t guessed by now, our colour of the month is BLUE!
It’s one of my favourite colours! There are so many different shades and hues of blue, from pale soft pastels, to bright, vibrant shades, plus everything in between.
Flower of the month
Did you know there is a difference between English and Spanish bluebells? Let us know what you have planted in your garden.
They should be starting to appear in the garden soon, but they can require ongoing care. They can look really effective when planted under deciduous trees, mimicking woodland conditions.
Worthy Causes this month
- Dry July is held over the whole of the month to raise funds for the Cancer Council of Australia with Bowel cancer, the research topic of the month.
- National Diabetes Month is also in July. 1.3 million Australians are registered with the National Diabetes Services Scheme
- July is also Plastic Free Month, you can help by cutting down on plastic use, buy using recyclable or reusable containers.
Birthstone
The birthstone for July is RUBY!
Rubies belong to the mineral family corundum. They share the exact same chemical structure as sapphires. If a corundum crystal is red, it is classified as a ruby. Every other colour (blue, pink, yellow, green) is classified as a sapphire.
