This week at HoHorsham U3A – Weekly Schedule from 23rd March

There’s a full and varied program running at Horsham U3A this week, with activities every day from Monday through to Friday. Whether you enjoy learning something new, keeping active, or simply catching up with friends over a cuppa, there’s plenty on the schedule to tempt you along.

As always, members are welcome to join any class that interests them, and new faces are encouraged to come and try a session. Below are five featured groups for this week that offer a great mix of history, language, laughter, word play and gentle exercise.

Local History: Harvey Champness

This week we welcome special guest speaker Harvey Champness, who will be presenting on the Gold Escort Routes. Harvey will explore how gold was transported across Victoria, the routes used, and some of the colourful stories and characters associated with them. It’s a fascinating look at a dramatic chapter of our state’s past and a great session for anyone interested in local or goldfields history.

German Conversation

German Conversation

If you have a little school German tucked away, or you’ve learnt the basics elsewhere, this friendly conversation group is a chance to dust it off and use it. The focus is on simple spoken German, everyday phrases and building confidence rather than perfect grammar. Come along for a gentle language workout and enjoy chatting about travel, culture and daily life.

Grumpy Old Wrinklies

Looking for a social afternoon with plenty of humour? The Grumpy Old Wrinklies group offers exactly that – a light‑hearted space to chat, share opinions, reminisce and put the world to rights. The conversation can range from current events to memories of “how things used to be”, with lots of laughs along the way.

Scrabble

Word‑lovers are invited to join our Scrabble group for an enjoyable afternoon of friendly competition. All levels are welcome, from casual players to serious tile‑trackers, and there’s always someone on hand to help with scoring or rules. It’s a great way to keep the brain active while enjoying good company.

Table Tennis – multiple sessions during the week

For those who prefer to be up and moving, Table Tennis runs on several mornings and is one of our most popular physical activities. Games are social rather than fiercely competitive, with plenty of time to rotate tables, chat between points and play at your own pace. It’s excellent gentle exercise and a fun way to start the day.
