For all interested in the development of the new website
Updates from Saturday
- The pages of the website that have been developed over the last few months have now been copied over from the temporary site.
- The email form on the front page has been tested as working
- The login section for the administrators has been added to the menu system at the top. All administrators should now have their login details
- Jetpack has been added to the site to link the website with our new Facebook page. This means that all future posts will automatically appear on Facebook so there is no need to switch back and forth between them making additional updates
- Information on courses, the nomination forms for the AGM and course choice forms have all been added to the Downloads page
- A longer contact form has been created and added to the Contact Page, allowing visitors to leave a message
- Word Fence Security has been installed to block any spam or hacking attempts
- The Embed Press plugin has been installed to allow for the uploads of PDF files, links to YouTube, Google Docs and more
- Ultimate member plugin has been installed to allow for easy management of U3A members, this will also allow members to upload their own photo to their profile if they wish. There are other features of this plugin that may be useful
- Yoast SEO has been installed to enable Search Engine Optimisation on the site. This will allow a small preview to appear in search engines such as Google, Bing, etc.
- A couple of events have been added to the event manager, I will work through the others in the schedule over the next few days. This event manager will also add the GPS location of the venues, allowing any new members to find them easily using Google maps
- A newsletter plugin has been installed, this will mean we will be able to create and send newsletters via the website as an option
Still to come
- Better Docs plugin is installed but I still need to copy over all the information from the testing space. This plugin will work as an online help desk for the site administrators
- Policies still need to be added to the Download manager
- The footer that appears at the bottom of every page is to be updated with the relevant links
- The image of the Scrabble group that was taken last year is to be added to the home page as a header
There may be other bits and pieces that need fixing. If anyone feels like being a proof reader, they are more than welcome. Please let me know if you find any errors or if an item needs to be included.
