Tai Chi — Move, Breathe, Belong

There is something wonderfully telling about a group photo where everyone is smiling. Take a look at this one, sent in by Horsham U3A member Liz Voight — that is the Tai Chi group, and if their faces are anything to go by, they are having a very good time indeed.

Tai Chi Group 2026

Tai Chi is one of those activities that is easy to love and hard to explain until you try it. Based on slow, flowing movements combined with mindful breathing, it is gentle on the joints, wonderful for balance, and remarkably effective for reducing stress. And perhaps just as importantly — as this photo shows — it is a great excuse to get together with a friendly group of people twice a week.

Whether you are new to exercise or simply looking for something gentler on the body, Tai Chi has something to offer everyone:

  • Improves balance and coordination — helping reduce the risk of falls

  • Gentle on joints — suitable for all fitness levels and abilities

  • Supports mental wellbeing — the mindful, meditative nature of the movements is calming and centring

  • Builds strength and flexibility gradually over time

  • And of course — it is sociable, fun, and something to look forward to
